Nov 25: On Doormats
Counting down to the end of 2025. I’m already looking forward to a short year-end break. Being treated like a doormat all the time can wear people down, and I have reached a point where I think I need a short break.
Either way, this
will be my last post for the year.
Auntie T and Uncle Kev came down from Australia. My kids still have difficulty processing we’re all related – but we’ll get there someday. It’ll be interesting to see how they react if they ever meet their cousins from that branch of the family.
Anyway, the auntie and uncle left just in time to avoid Tropical Storm Senyar, which made landfall a few
days later.
The
storm led to a few days of London-like weather. It also made for some
interesting views of the KL skyline.

During
those few days, all I could see out the office window was a great white wall of rain cloud.
While we're on the subject of the office, for the past month, I’ve been juggling two sets of bosses, colleagues, and work environments. I often get the sense that each side assumes I fall under the other’s responsibility, so most days I’m just left to my own devices.
I wonder what it would be like if I decided to stop showing up, like this lady, but I suppose that's a discussion for another day.
Meanwhile, the
kiddo went to another rugby tournament. She looked like she had fun. She plays for a predominantly girls' team, so I think it's awesome they're able to compete with the boys.
I don't know much about rugby, but I reckon the sport is growing locally because these kiddo tournaments attract a thousand people or more.
The only drawback is that we all end up twenty shades darker by the end of each tournament, having baked in the hot sun all day. No amount of sunscreen is fixing that.
A
few days ago, my daughter's club even organised a parents’ match. Thus, at the age of 37,
I finally played my first rugby match. Here I am making it obvious I’ve never
held a rugby ball before.
Let's just say sport has never been my strong suit :)
What
I can do slightly better than average is to run. This month, I ran a race with a much shorter distance than
usual – just for the sake of keeping my one-run-a-month streak going. I thought I was rapid - until I figured out the course was actually 1km short. Ah well.
Heading into December, it seems I’ll be a wee bit short of the 1,000 km target this year, but overall, I can’t
complain. It’s been good.
In essence, that also sums up my 2025. Some parts were definitely shit, and some areas came up short, but overall, not much to complain about.
Wishing you a great end to the year - see y'all in 2026.
