Mar 25: Ramadan Reflections

The holy month this year was, as always, a time for reflection. On this month, a lot of things make you realise time is moving by really fast. Maybe it was the quieter evenings, maybe it was the fact that I turned 37, or maybe it was just the sheer amount of oats I consumed (believe me, I had a lot of those for sahur).

I found myself watching a lot of spy thrillers this Ramadan. My favourite by far was Black Doves, with The Night Agent a close second. Safe to say I got my money's worth from Netflix in March.

Something that was not worth for money, however, was a visit to a chiropractor to sort out my back pain. Paid RM100 just to be advised to get an MRI. Absolutely not planning on doing it.

On a different note, turning 37 felt surprisingly normal. No existential crisis, no sudden urge to pick up an extreme hobby (yet) - just another step forward.

I did go for a birthday run, though :)

My wife did, however, treat me to a wonderful birthday dinner at a place I hadn’t been to since I turned 33 (or maybe 34?). Should make this a tradition and only return when I turn 40.

My friends bought me a Google Nest Hub for my birthday. I’ve been spending more time talking to it than anything else lately - which is kinda pathetic. Either way, it’s a fun distraction.

Unlike previous years, I was only out for iftar once with friends. Every other evening was spent at home. My anti-social ass really enjoyed the peace and quiet.

I did enjoy the night out, though.

This year's Hari Raya was a low-key affair. But I've just realised I'm one of those rare guys on the in-laws' side of the family who shows up for every family reunion. Even the actual cousin who married a few weeks back has gone off to do her own thing. I totally deserve a prize.

Anyway, Hari Raya also marked the close of the first quarter of the year. Time really is flying, so if  you'll excuse me, I'm off to ponder what I want my mid-life crisis to be.
