Mar 24: On Feeling Pensive

Ramadan always puts me in a pensive mood. Always an opportunity to reflect on the year that was and how much things have changed since the previous year.

Thought I'd try a going through Ramadan in a healthier manner this year by having oats for sahur. This lasted about two days. The best iftar I've had so far is still the one day I've had back home in Ipoh. That was the best of the lot.

This Ramadan is also especially meaningful, since I turned 36 in the middle of it.

Don't know what to make of it yet. Grateful for the life I've lived so far but yearning to have a bit more freedom. That's how I'd summarise it.

Before the fasting month started, we had our annual Penang trip. Loved it but would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't for the seven hour road trip on the way in.

Also managed my second run of the year. The hilly route was murder (and partly responsible for the God awful timing). The biggest takeaway is that I have no idea how to pose for photos (although that's pretty much known to all).

Beyond the things I've mentioned, the month has sailed by fairly uneventfully, although the same cannot be said for Malaysia. We've somehow managed to become more racist and less tolerant than at any other point throughout my life.

I reckon this is something that cannot be solved until someone figures out how to regulate social media. Applies not just for Malaysia but for the entire world. Until then, I suppose this is the new normal.
