The Ed Woodward Post

Ed Woodward.

The name on lips of most Manchester United fans these days.

The man who signs off on the money [1].

The man who shows zero urgency to sign anyone even though we're short by four players (and that's just my conservative estimate) [2].

Although the basis of most fans' protests is about money, the narrative shouldn't be why aren't we spending money. It should be why are we spending money the way we are.

An analysis of the transfer of the past five years' transfer dealings shows that we've spent approximately 623.8 million pounds on players.

That is not an insignificant amount.

What's more pertinent here is the fact that nine of them are no longer at the club and three are backup goalkeepers who are unlikely to play a major role.

Of the remaining ten, we have the perma-crocked duo of Eric Bailly and Diogo Dalot.

Then we have Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic who both look like they can't wait to abandon ship (the only reason they haven't is that no one actually wants to buy them).

This means we're left with six players (three of whom have only been around for six months).

These six are OK to me in the sense that they have all produced moments which suggest they might actually be at the level required to play for Man Utd but it's bleeding obvious that their confidence levels have been shot to pieces which explains why they sometimes look at par with the players I see at Perak.

This is especially true of Martial whose form depends on what his mood is on match day.

So yes, us fans can continue to call for Woodward to splurge another 600 million but if we're going to persist with the scatter-gun approach we've been adopting since SAF left then we're not going to be much better off.

If Woodward is trying to address this by taking approximately seven months to conclude one Bruno Fernandes deal [3] then he should probably get a fugging director of football/recruitment/whatever A.S.A.P. and not flip-flop on it like a bloody fish [4] [5] [6].
