The Human Race

Django Unchained and Lincoln. Watching these two movies recently really put the human race into perspective.

Exactly 150 years ago, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation - an act which paved the way to the full abolishment of slavery two years later.

Just 150 short years ago (short in the sense the modern human being has been around for 200,000 years), black people were treated like dogs, but today Barack Obama sits in the White House.

Shows you how far the human race has come.

And it also shows you how much further we can go.

Just 110 years ago the Wright brothers were flapping around in a rickety contraption. These days we have double-deck airliners capable of carrying 853 people at 900km/h.

Just 25 years ago mobile phones were the size of a brick. These days we've managed to downsize it to the extent that we don't even feel it in our pockets most of the time.

Just 20 years ago the first web browser made its appearance. The number of websites available were a tiny, tiny fraction of the millions available today. These days we can't live without the Internet.

So yes, I do suppose it's an exciting time to be a human-being. We sure have it better than our ancestors who had to put up with a whole bunch of crap

Since there's no telling what will be discovered tomorrow, maybe one day, our future generations will be blogging about how pitiful we were.
